From Mrs. Gaffney ~

As of Tuesday, April 1, 2020:

School Closure is in effect through April 10, 2020. The governor has waived the pupil-instruction time requirements through April 10.  Therefore, I intend to abide by the current school calendar until further notice.   Teachers are being instructed to not assign additional classwork for the week of April 6-10. Instead, this time will be used to contact students and families who have not been heard from, verify connectivity to all households, check in with all students to see how this remote learning is working and take suggestions, establish electronic only homework submission in one form or another, and identify, to the greatest extent possible, issues related to remote learning.  Teachers are encouraged to complete Google Meet appointments with their students and/or classes, so watch for invites in student and parent/guardian emails.  It varies by family.  Ideally, we would like to establish a learning schedule similar to the class schedule, but it is not essential at this time. We are learning together in one big group right now.

Valier Schools remote learning will continue, but not at the risk of staff, student, and community health and safety.  The school staff is important, and their work is important.  Retaining their good health is essential to our ability to continue educating our children every way we can. Valier Schools has a very talented, creative, and energetic staff eager to meet the needs of all students and continue their learning.  It will require creativity, flexibility, ingenuity, and thinking outside the box.  It also means, to protect staff health and minimize the possibility of contamination, that some added restrictions will be put in place. It is difficult to ensure that a work environment has not been contaminated.  There are so many unknowns.  Therefore, the school facilities including the elementary building, high school building, bus barns, school vehicles, and Kingsbury Colony classrooms,  will be unavailable to staff.  Heating, electrical and other systems will be monitored to ensure the building systems continue running.  Staff will not be able to enter the building during this time.  During the week beginning April 6, the facilities will undergo another cleaning prior to staff being allowed back in as needed.  This decision will be reviewed again as we approach April 10.  Thank you in advance for your support of the overall safety of so many people.  Take care, and please abide by the shelter in place order so we can get on with the better things in life.

The schools' phone system has been forwarded and calls will be answered or a voice message may be left by calling 279-3613 or 279-3314, during regular school hours if you have any questions.

Governor Bullock has extended the statewide school closure to April 10.
