From Mrs. Gaffney ~

As of Tuesday, April 7, 2020:

Update coming soon regarding curriculum distribution.

As of today, CDC/OPI guidelines state educational materials and packets should not be physically returned to the school or to the teachers at this time.  If parents or students can take a picture of their work and send as an attachment, or use one of the google scanning methods to capture a picture of their work, that is the only method we are able to use at this time.  Teachers are brainstorming other means of evaluating classwork, and are sharing those ideas with parents and colleagues.  Electronic means are the safest method for now. As of today, we can still make packets available to students for pick up.  There is a tentative plan for curbside pickup only (no deliveries) on Wednesday, April 15, of new learning materials.  Not all teachers will be sending home packets since Google Classroom and other electronic means are working well. The time on Wednesday, April 15, for distribution has not been decided.  Phone tree, emails, text and website notification will go out to everyone as soon as the process is confirmed.

Valier Schools remote learning will continue, but not at the risk of staff, student, and community health and safety.  The school staff is important, and their work is important.  Retaining their good health is essential to our ability to continue educating our children every way we can. Valier Schools has a very talented, creative, and energetic staff eager to meet the needs of all students and continue their learning.  It will require creativity, flexibility, ingenuity, and thinking outside the box.  It also means, to protect staff health and minimize the possibility of contamination, that some added restrictions will be put in place. It is difficult to ensure that a work environment has not been contaminated.  There are so many unknowns.  Therefore, the elementary building and high school building are available to staff by schedule, for a short amount of time, under very strict conditions, to those teachers needing to access the copy machine and some of their books to prepare for the 2nd phase of remote learning.  The bus barns, school vehicles, outbuildings, garages, and Kingsbury Colony classrooms, and are off limits to everyone but custodial staff.  Heating, electrical and other systems will be monitored to ensure the building systems continue running.  Thank you in advance for your support of the overall safety of so many people.  Take care, and please abide by the shelter in place order so we can get on with the better things in life.

The schools' phone system has been forwarded and calls will be answered or a voice message may be left by calling 279-3613 or 279-3314, during regular school hours if you have any questions.

Governor Bullock has extended the statewide school closure to April 10.
