Chief Earl Old Person

We honor the legacy Chief Old Person. 1929-2021

Earl Old Person was a leading advocate for access to higher education. Though he never attended college himself, Old Person holds an honorary doctorate of human letters from the University of Montana. In 1998, he was awarded the Jeannette Rankin Civil Liberties Award. One year later, Old Person became the University of Lethbridge's first recipient of the Christine Miller Memorial Award for Excellence in Native American Studies. In 1991, the University of Montana endowed a $5,000 scholarship in his name for Blackfeet students attending the university in Missoula. ~ Read more about Chief Old Person in Indian Country Today

NOTICE:

Valier Community,

Valier Public Schools now has a new door system for both the Elementary and the High School. All doors into the building will be locked throughout the day. There is a doorbell at each of the front doors. To gain entrance to either building please ring the doorbell and the front desk will communicate with you through the doorbell and unlock the door for you. We have also gone away from a “key” style entrance into the gym or weight room. If you have a key to either the gym or the weight room please come to the school and get a new key fob that will give you access to those locations. All entrance into the gym/weight room area will be through the North-West Gym Door. There is a black pad next to the door that you swipe your fob on to gain entrance. This same key fob will give you access to the weight room as well. If you do not currently have a key, or a fob, you can come to the Elementary and sign a waiver to receive your fob. Please understand that these fob’s are not cheap and if you need one replaced there will be a $10 replacement fee. If you have any questions please feel free to contact the school.

Thank you for your patience,

Mr. Widhalm

Superintendent
